This quilt, circa 1890s, is a variation of a very rare pattern called Oriole Window. From the estate of a Kentucky collector. The curves and sharp points make this a difficult pattern to execute, but it has been very well done. The quilting is densely hand-stitched in a variety of patterns including flower petals, shells, double lines and outlines of the patchwork.

There is a scalloped border with brown cotton binding that spans two adjoining sides of the quilt, while the other two sides have no scalloping and a blue cotton binding. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in very good condition, with some fraying of the brown binding and some beginning deterioration of the fabric forming the cross-hatch for one "window" (see photos). Finally, there are some brown/tan water spots in several locations, most notably in one area of the scalloped border. (see photos).

It is approximately 73 inches by 83 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Pictured on a queen-size bed.
