Antique Double Irish Chain Quilt: Hand-Quilted (81x82)

This is a beautiful Double Irish Chain Variation Quilt, circa 1870s-1890s, that has been hand-and-machine stitched and hand-quilted. The tiny hand-stitched quilting is in outlines of the patchwork in the body of the quilt and in a braided rope pattern around the four-sided border.

The back is made of wide strips of the same green and yellow floral on the front of the quilt as well as a tan fabric and a narrower strip of yellow cotton. The binding is the green and yellow floral that has been machine-stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in very good condition with overall age-related fading and some color loss on the front of the quilt. While the front of the quilt is completely intact, there has been fabric loss to the tan fabric on the back such that in one location in a corner the cotton batting is visible.

The quilt is clean and soft and measures 81 inches by 82 inches. From a smoke-free, pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
