This is a unique, one-of-a-kind quilt, circa 1870-1890, with four tulips shooting out of a central star accented by a tulip at each corner and a red, yellow and white border around all four sides. The applique tulips have been hand-stitched and hand-embroidered in place. The quilting is very fine and is in star medallion patterns in the large white spaces, in a wide braided rope pattern around the shooting tulips center, in diamonds around the tulips, and in diagonals along the border.
The back is white cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent antique condition with age-related color changes/fading of the fabrics (what were green stems 150 years ago are now light tan stems). There also appears to be some very light yellow color transfer in spots.
The quilt is clean and soft and measures 76 inches by 76 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
