This beautiful Nose-Gay Quilt was made in the mid-to-late 1930s in a pattern first published by the KC Star in 1932. It is from an Ohio collector. Each of the 42 squares is expertly pieced and made from unique vintage, feedsack fabrics - no two are alike - and each has been extensively quilted.
One square has the name "William" (see photos) which appears to be part of the fabric and not separately added by the quilter. It's not clear why the name is embedded in the fabric, but William was among the top five baby names throughout the 1930s.
The quilt is in excellent condition with the only issue noted being color transfer (blue) to a square and part of the border. The same blue color transfer also went through to the white, cotton back in the same locations. The quilt is otherwise free of issues.
This lovely quilt is clean and soft and measures 74 inches by 87 inches. From a smoke-free, pet-free home. Shown on a queen bed.
