This is a Butterfly Quilt, circa 1930s, that has been hand stitched, hand embroidered and hand quilted. The quilting stitches are tiny, even and precise. They are in outlines of the butterflies, in a diamond pattern through the rest of the butterfly blocks and in a rolling wave pattern along the cheddar/orange fabric.
The back is a lighter cheddar/orange while the binding is the cheddar/orange from the front that has been turned to the back and hand-stitched. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent condition with two issues: a patch where the cheddar/orange fabric has faded to pale (see photos) and several patches that appear to be shadows on the cheddar/orange fabric but may be some type of subtle color transfer. See photos.
The quilt measures 62 inches by 72 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
