This is a circa 1890s Sawtooth Quilt made of red triangles pieced into white cotton. The hand piecing is meticulous, but it is the quilting that really shines on this quilt. It is intricate, hand-quilted in very tiny stitches and includes feather variations, wreaths, diamonds and outlines of the tiny triangles.
The back is white cotton, as is the binding and the cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent condition, especially for its age. Two of the red triangles are showing very small signs of fabric deterioration - the size of a tip of a pen on each (see photos). There are also some tannish spots - also the size of a tip of a pen - and a larger tan spot (the size of a fist) on the back that does not show or effect the front. See photos.
This lovely quilt is clean and soft and measures 77 inches by 79 inches. From a smoke-free, pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
