This Peony Quilt is circa 1890-1900 with very intricate hand quilting, including feathers through the middle and along the borders, concentric triangles and tiny diamonds of less than 1/2 inch around the flowers, small flowers in circles, double and triple outlines of the applique and even some areas with stippling. See photos. One corner of the back is signed "A.L.F."
The back is an off-white cotton, as is the impossibly narrow binding that has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back.
The quilt is in excellent antique condition with some age-related fading of the fabrics, several spots of light tan toning on the front (see photos) and toning along the fold line in the back. See last photo.
It measures 82 inches by 82 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Pictured on a queen-size bed, but a display sleeve has also been sewn to the back.
