This Dresden Plate Antique Quilt, circa 1940s, is tagged "Made with Love By Mother" and it shows. There's a lot that's gone into this quilt, including the meticulous hand-stitched applique of the beautifully designed Dresden Plates, which each have 17 unique fabrics. If any of the fabrics repeat in the quilt, I couldn't find them.
The quilting is also varied. Some of the inner circles of the Dresden Plates are quilted in concentric circles, while others are flowers, stars, or pinwheels/X-patterns. The rest of the quilting is in hand-stitched, close-together straight lines between the Dresden Plates.
The border is also varied. On two (opposite) sides the binding is about 3-inches wide and is brought from the back to the front and hand stitched in a running stitch to the front. The border on the other two sides is just an inch wide, but it is also brought from front to back and hand-stitched to the front in a running stitch. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt's green background fabric is also used as the binding, with the tiniest of stitches between it and the pink materials used for the backing. Material(s) is the correct word because the pink backing is two-tone, half is one pink fabric and the other half is a darker shade of pink (see photos). It uses very light cotton batting.
The quilt is in excellent condition with no condition issues found.
It is clean, very soft and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. It is on the smaller side at just 67 inches by 67 inches. Shown on a queen-size bed.
