  • Details
This is an outstanding Light and Dark Log Cabin Quilt, circa 1880s, with unique Sawtooth Border. Pennsylvania origin. The body of this quilt is made of wool and silk, while the border and back are cotton and linen. The largest strips in the log cabin are 1/4 inch by 4 1/4 inches and just get smaller from there.

The quilting goes around each log cabin block, outlines the many sawtooths along the border and along the green border is in an elaborate braided rope pattern. All of the quilting is in black thread.

The back is made of strips of brown linen, while the border is a red cotton with sawtooth edge that has been hand-stitched to the front. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent condition, with some signs of early fabric deterioration in some of the silk fabrics. See photos. There are also several old patches on the back that do not impact the front. See photos.

The quilt measures 68 inches by 84 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
