This beautiful wool and silk Crazy Quilt is dated 1891 and initialed "N.L.R." It is extensively hand-embroidered.
The back is a beautiful brown and gold brocade that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. Unlike most crazy quilts, this one has batting and the cotton batting is lightweight. It has been subtly hand-tied.
The quilt is in excellent antique condition with the partial and full shattering of about a half-dozen silks (see photos) (like most crazy quilts from this era due to the manufacturing process for silks at the time).
This beautiful quilt is 68 inches by 68 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
