This beautifully colorful Crazy Quilt is circa 1900-1910. The top is made primarily of silks and satins and each piece has been outline-embroidered in a dozen different colored embroidery threads. Like many crazy quilts it is hand-tied (not quilted) and has no batting.

The back and binding are cotton - the back is a teal/green print while the binding is a solid teal/green that has been hand-stitched to both sides.

It is in excellent overall condition though it has about 1/2 dozen shattered silks (see photos) which is unfortunately caused by the addition of metal salts to silks by manufacturers in the late 19th century and early 20th century to increase the weight, and thus the price, of the silks, leading to an early deterioration of the fabric.

It measures 66 by 68 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. It is shown on a queen-size bed.
