Currants and Coxcomb Antique Quilt with stuffed applique and leaf border; circa 1880s, handmade, hand-stitched quilt, 74" x 74"

This Cockscomb and Currants applique quilt is done with very fine stitching and quilting that includes feathering and patterns of flowers and a variety of leaves. The stuffed applique includes the currants and stuffed applique at each center "flower." The applique border beautifully repeats and complements the colors of the central pattern.

The back is white cotton as is the narrow binding which has been accented with a thin reed of red. The cotton batting is lightweight.

The quilt is in very good, vintage condition with age-related issues, including uneven fading of the green fabric (see photos - including the white areas of the green fabric), some minor fabric loss, including to a small section of one of the red flower petals (see photos) and some fraying of the border. The quilt is approximately 74 inches by 74 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Pictured on a queen-size bed.
