This is a Kentucky Beauty Antique Quilt, circa 1880s-1890s, and comes from an Ohio collector. It is a pattern that is rarely found and has been beautifully pieced with a variety of red and yellow prints with intricate hand quilting in very tiny stitches.
The quilting is primarily in tiny diamonds throughout the body of the quilt, with small geometric medallions in the center of each star and a multi-layered twisted rope pattern around the border. The border goes around all four sides, but is three times the size on two sides.
The back is white cotton which has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the narrow binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent condition with the only flaw found what appears to be some early deterioration of one of the red print fabrics. There is also some age-related fading of the yellow and red fabrics. See photos.
It is clean, very soft and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. It measures 81 inches by 85 inches. Shown on a queen-size bed.
