Delectable Mountains Antique Quilt with Post-Bed corners, circa 1890-1900, antique quilt; handmade; hand-quilted; vintage quilt

This quilt is a rarely found pattern called Delectable Mountains, circa 1890-1900, with Post-Bed corners, or cut-out corners designed to accommodate a four-poster bed. The quilt originates from Massachusetts.

The many triangle points of this pattern are challenging but this quilt has been expertly pieced and the tiny hand-quilting is precise and evenly spaced. The quilting is in diagonals and triangle peaks through most of the body of the quilt.

The back is an off-white cotton, as is the very narrow binding which has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent condition, with one unfortunate flaw on the lower lefthand side where something seems to have spilled onto the quilt, turning the cheddar color to green as can be seen in the photos (see 10th photo).

It is approximately 84 inches by 86 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Pictured on a queen-size bed.
